Why do I need to register my domestic worker for UIF and COIDA?
Domestic Workers Employment Compliance Registration means that if any domestic worker employed by you works more than 24 hours per month, you must register them with the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) and as of the 1st of March 2021 with Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act (COIDA).
- Registering a domestic worker – which is every employer’s responsibility and must be done as soon as employment begins, but can be done very easily with Payroll SA.
- The employer will be held fully responsible and not the employee.
- Failing to do so is illegal and could lead to fines and, imprisonment, or both.
